PADFAST™ SB Technical Information

PADFAST™ ready to use pad printing inks can be used to produce low-cost single colour care labels particularly suitable for apparel, sportswear, healthcare, workwear and promotional items. PADFAST™ can produce printed fabric labels at increased speeds due to faster ink drying onto the substrate and excellent cup life. Without the need for transfer substrates, drying or heat application they offer environmental and economical benefits compared to traditional heat transfer labels for low-cost applications.

Use up to 25% to thin the ink as necessary.

Use up to 25% if the ink dries too fast.

  1. We recommend to only use the additives listed above to ensure the printed fabric labels produced with PADFAST™ SB inks, additives and crosslinkers are STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® Class 1 compliant.
  2. We recommend not to use >25% of any combination of additives in PADFAST™ SB inks.

Notes:

  1. Substrates to be printed must be tested for suitability with the PADFAST™ SB ink system prior to production runs being carried out. Always test application fully before beginning production run as there is often considerable variance in substrates from different manufacturers and even between different batches.
  2. The substrate must be STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® Class 1 compliant to ensure the printed fabric labels produced with PADFAST™ SB inks and additives are STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® Class 1 compliant.

Usage Instructions

  • Add PADFAST™ SB Purple Band Crosslinker (76-AD-PB) at 8% to PADFAST™ SB inks and mix thoroughly before printing.
  • Wash & durability performance will be achieved 48 hours after printing. Some substrates may require longer times.


Notes:

  1. PADFAST™ SB inks mixed with PADFAST™ SB Purple Band Crosslinker (76-AD-PB) will irreversibly harden after 1 hour when used in an open ink cup pad printing machine. If printing is interrupted for more than 1 hour then the ink cup, pad and plate (cliché) must be cleaned thoroughly to avoid damage.
  2. PADFAST™ SB inks mixed with PADFAST™ SB Purple Band Crosslinker (76-AD-PB) will irreversibly harden after 24 hours when used in an closed ink cup pad printing machine. If printing is interrupted for more than 24 hours then the ink cup, pad and plate (cliché) must be cleaned thoroughly to avoid damage.
  3. PADFAST™ SB inks mixed with PADFAST™ SB Purple Band Crosslinker (76-AD-PB) have a pot life of 4 hours.

Usage Recommendations

  • The optimum print room temperature is 18-20°C.
  • The optimum relative humidity is 50-60%.
  • We recommend using in a well ventilated area.
  • For maximum opacity, print without the addition of any PADFAST™ SB Reducing Medium T (76-AD-RMT), PADFAST™ SB Retarder (76-AD-RE) or PADFAST™ SB Accelerator (76-AD-AC).
  • We recommend to only mix the required quantity of ink and crosslinker to reduce wastage.

Wash Up

  • Remove excess ink from ink cup, pad and plate (cliché) immediately.
  • Use PERFECTOS® Cleaner (99-10-56 / 99-10-S40) for final cleaning the of the ink cup, pad and plate (cliché). 
  • Ensure all ink is removed from the ink cup, pad and plate (cliché) to avoid damage.

  1. Products must be stored in the supplied containers with closed lids.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Why do my prints set-off?

  • This is often caused because the prints have not been thoroughly dried.
  • Consider reducing the quantities of PADFAST™ SB Reducing Medium T (76-AD-RMT) and PADFAST™ SB Retarder (76-AD-RE) additives to reduce ink drying time.
  • Consider adding PADFAST™ SB Accelerator (76-AD-AC) to reduce ink drying time.


2. Why are my prints not opaque?

  • This can be caused by dust, other particles or dried ink blocking the plate (cliché). Ensure the plate (cliché) is thoroughly cleaned.  
  • Consider reducing the quantities of PADFAST® SB Reducing Medium T (76-AD-RMT), PADFAST® SB Retarder (76-AD-RE) or PADFAST® SB Accelerator (76-AD-AC) if wanting to produce the most opaque prints.
  • Consider using a plate (cliché) with a deeper depth to provide a higher volume of ink deposits.
  • Consider using a different pad material to improve ink release onto the substrate.
  • The weave and calendering of the substrate can affect the ability to produce opaque prints. Highly calendered substrate with a smooth surface finish may produce a more opaque print.


3. Why are my prints missing details?

  • Ensure the plates (clichés) are thoroughly clean and free of dried ink.
  • Ensure the pads are free of dried ink.
  • Ensure the plates (clichés) is not damaged or missing details.
  • Ensure the pads and plates (clichés) are free of lint from substrates.
  • Verify that the plates (clichés) etch depth is correct and consistent, with no faults in the image.
  • The weave and calendering of the substrate can affect the ability to produce detailed prints. Highly calendered substrate with a smooth surface finish may produce a more detailed print.


4. Why are my prints not meeting the expected wash or durability performance?

  • Ensure the correct amount of crosslinker has been added to the inks and mixed thoroughly.
  • Check both the inks and the crosslinker are within shelf life and expiry dates.
  • Confirm the substrate is suitable.
