Special Effects inks are a specialty inks that allow creation of printed materials which offer unique and attractive graphics. The application requirement does limit the use due to available printing equipment. PERFECTOS® Special Effects ink series are sensory enhancement to attract the consumer and hold a consumer’s interest.


Thermochromic – proven in Screen and Heat Transfer applications


Temperature changing pigments that have high, vibrant colours in their natural state, but become transparent at body temperature (31°C)

Pearlescent

Pearlescent pigments are a range of high impact fashion pigments that generate a metallic sheen and colour variation when viewed in natural light. Wide range of colours are available with special pearlescent white pigments also available.


Pearlescent pigment is suitable for use with Letterflex, Screen and Heat Transfer applications. Best results are achieved using screen printing and/or heat transfer applications. When using letterpress or flexographic applications, a coarse anilox is required to maximise particle deposit. Larger particles can generate a higher pearl effect.


For application onto: Cotton, polycotton, polyester.


Washable up to 60°C, no of cycles 50. Compliant with OekoTex® Standard 100 Class 1.

Glitter

Glitter effect means high impact sparkle pigments that generate highly dazzling prints for direct and transfer applications. Available in a range of colours and particle sizes which are depending on ink system (solvent or water-based inks).


The sparkle is related to the particle size of the glitter. High impact prints are based on a 0.008 sq inch glitter flake that needs a 10.5T screen (threads per cm); other particle size including 0.004sq inch (capable of printing through a 34-43T mesh threads per cm) and 0.002 sq inch (capable of printing through a 77-90T mesh threads per cm).


For direct printing, increased texture and roughness may occur when using coarsest screens. Utilising transfer; post pressing or finer particles will improve roughness.


Washable up to 60°C, no. of cycles 50. Complicant with OekoTex® Standard 100 Class 1.

Phosphorescent

Phosphorescent effects are a range of specific pigmented systems designed to absorb or charge with natural and artificial light before emitting visible light in dark room environments. Two types of pigment are available;


  • Fashion grade (typicall visible for 3-4 hours in dark environment. Available in a range of five colours (Green; Orange; Red; Blue and Yellow)


  • Safety grade (formulated visible for 8 hours). Used in conjunction with reflectives and fluorescents to meet European Safety Standard implications. Only available in Green shade.


To achieve a strong visible phosphorescent “glow in the dark” effect. It is vital to ensure that prints have been fully charged in natural or artificial light for 1-3 hours to achieve sufficient long term visible nature in a dark room environment. It is also vital to ensure adequate film thickness to ensure that sufficient pigment loading is achieved to effect charge. For this reason, mesh counts finer than 90T threads per cm are not recommended. Phosphorescent effects are also not recommended for flexo or letterpress applications if Safety standard resistance is required.


Best results and higher phosphorescent effects are achieved utilising solvent based ink systems. Whilst water based ink systems may be supplied in phosphorescent colours for fashion wear; highest and longest visibility in a dark room is achieved using solvent based inks.

Lenticular

Lenticular pigments are a range of high impact fashion and security pigments that generate a colour change as the article or clothing is flexed or moved. Based on two-colour combination pigments, these are suitable for addition into screen printable fabric labels and heat transfer labels.


Full range of colours available depending on ink system (solvent or water-based inks).


Lenticular pigments are NOT recommended for letterpress or flexographic applications. Best results are achieved by either printing onto a black substrate, or using a black primer (screen PFL) or black backer (HTL). Larger particles generate higher impact and recommended screen meshes are in the range of 55-77T mesh threads per cm.

Photochromic

Photochromic pigments are a range of high impact fashion and security pigments that allow an almost invisible layer in artificial light, yet change colour when exposed to direct natural sunlight, generating a colour that will fade over time when reverting into artificial light.


Full range of colours available depending on ink system (solvent or water-based inks).


Photochromic pigments are not recommended for letterpress or flexo applications. Best results are achieved using a high concentration level of ink, through a fine screen deposit. Typically 90-120T mesh threads per cm are recommended.

Thermochromic

Thermochromic pigments are temperature changing pigments that high, vibrant colours in their natural state but become transparent at body temperature (31°C).


Full range of colour available depending on ink system (solvent or water-based inks).


Thermochromic pigments are dyes as such have limited opacity. Inks should be printed onto white substrates, a white under-based or with a which backer to achieve opacity. Best results with HTL have been achieved as the ability for the transfer to “disappear” when worn against the skin has value for wearers, especially on thin weight fabrics which would normally experience colour show-through.

Fragrance

Fragrance Microcapsule is an additive where the scent is emitted after scratching for direct and transfer applications. Available in a range of scent depending on ink system (solvent or water-based inks).


Fragrance Microcapsules are not recommended for letterpress or flexo applications. Best results are acheived by either direct printing, or heat transfer printing.
